Garage Games 2012 - Day 2

Image
September 9, 2012 Garage Games 2012 - Day 2 I slept pretty well after finally falling asleep. I tried so hard to get in bed early, but it just wasnt happening. Once I got there I laid there for about an hour just trying to get myself to relax... even as tired as I was. I still had so much excitement built up for day number two! When the alarm went off I had to hop right into the shower to get myself going. I hurried downstairs and made myself and Hubs some breakfast... yes you read that correctly... I made breakfast! I was very happy to see him walk downstairs after his shower and across the kitchen, yesterday it looked like he was going to need crutches to get around today. As soon as we were done we headed out to meet everyone to drive to Natick again. The ride there today was still so exciting. We chatted about our soreness... and about the WOD's to come... and how we wanted to do. Different conversation, as I think we were all a little less nervous and more excited since ...

Garage Games 2012 - Day 1

September 8, 2012 Garage Games Day 1... Wow, what a day! It was filled with all sorts of emotions and excitement... and a little bit of not so good excitement as well, Ill get to that. It all started off with getting up dark and early (because it was everything BUT bright at 5:00 in the morning). Hubs and I had a little breakfast, some coffee and got everything loaded into the truck to get to our meeting spot to hook up with our fellow CFWers. My stomach was doing its usual nervous flip flop. I know I really had nothing to be "nervous" about, I think it was just the whole buildup to the day that was getting to me. I was all chatty on the way down and just overall ready to get the day going! When we arrived we unloaded set up our tents and as the rest of the CFW Team arrived we all got more and more excited! We checked in, got out numbers and awaited the athletes meeting. I can remember looking around when people were showing up thinking "I remember that girl,"...

Its a Virtue

August 31, 2012 Anyone that knows me in real life... especially my parents and Hubs can tell you, I have absolutely zero patience. I have never had any, not when I was a newborn, a toddler, a child, a teen, a young adult... and still, I have none now. I am not really sure why, and I am not really sure how, but it is something I am working on. Though most of the time I can translate it into being a positive there are times that it is not good. Sometimes it adds stress where stress is not necessary and when I get stressed, I get even more impatient and, well, you get the picture.  I think one of the biggest issues that people have with working out and "dieting" (for the record I hate that word now when used in that context and almost cringe when I write it), is that they want immediate results. With the workout, they want to walk into the gym, pick up the weights or run on the treadmill and in a two week time period see results. They want to spend a week eating a "low ...

Bustin my Butt!

August 30, 2012 I was feeling pretty nostalgic yesterday and decided to look back at some of my old posts. I am so happy that I started writing as soon as I started crossfit. Not only is it nice to go back and be able to see my weights and times of previous workouts, but I also can really go back into my own mind when I wrote those posts and feel those feelings all over again. I can remember what each one of those feelings were like including every struggle and every accomplishment. Its almost like I can look back and relive what I went through and use it as fuel to keep moving forward. For every struggle I had, I had a learning experience and for every PR I had a humbling moment, its pretty cool to have a written reminder of that. Yesterday was a struggle day. I was so extremely happy with myself that I had got my ONE handstand pushup that I totally passed over the fact that I did all those squats… and the entire second WOD. I took some time to reflect on that when I got hom...

Timing is EVERYTHING

Image
August 29, 2012 I think we have all been in a situation where we have thought “timing is everything.” You’re in the right place at the right time, or in the wrong place at the wrong time… either way, you know what it is like to have that feeling. I know I have been in situations where something may happen that I feel like the timing couldn’t be worse for, I might not be ready for something that has suddenly popped up, or I’ve decide that right now is just not the right time for “whatever.” On the contrary I have been on the flip side thinking “perfect timing” when something happens… in these situations we rarely have any control over the timing. However, living through these situations we can totally understand how important timing is to our mentality, it can make something really awesome, or it can totally kill it. Garage Games are coming up on the 8 th and 9 th of September. I can remember attending them last year , just a noob in the CF world. It was pretty much the ev...

Garage Games - Day 1

October 23, 2011 We arrived at Whole Foods for dinner on Friday night starving and ready to eat. They have a fantastic selection of foods that fit into the paleo lifestyle so we were all set! We nervously and anxiously talked through dinner (and the whole ride to CT) about our strategy for how we would face the WOD's the next day, but we all knew full well that we could talk about it forever and get no where... we needed to get there and get started to get the "jitters" out. After dinner we checked into the hotel and did our best to get a good nights sleep. Saturday morning, we met up and hit the continental breakfast (along with quite a few other crossfitters) at the hotel. "Regular" people were wondering what was going on when they saw all sorts of T-shirts on people like "I cant dance, but you should see me snatch" as well as the assortment of odd looking footwear (aka five finger shoes)... we all know what they do and what they mean... but its ...
