January 7, 2013 I think its safe to say that I sleep better at night knowing what the WOD is going to be the next morning when I get up for the gym. See... going to the 5:30am class is perfect for me (yes, Sarah we know it is) but that means that there are nights that I am literally waiting for the WOD to go up on the website before heading to bed.  No, there has never been a day that I bailed on a workout because I didnt want to do it... and yes, there have been nights that I didnt seep as well because I knew it was going to be a challenge the next day... but there are also nights (like last night) that I went to be super excited and slept fantastic because I knew what the next morning was going to bring... my favorite Hero WOD, "DT." There is something about this WOD that really gets me going. DT are the initials of SSgt Tim Davis, 23d Special Tactics Squadron, US Air Force who was killed in action on February 20, 2009. He was 28 years old supporting operations in OEF...

Labor Day

Image
September 3, 2012 Labor Day is usually the day that marks the end of the summer. Its the last weekend that people usually use their vacation homes, pack up their boats and have massive parties. Really... Labor Day exists for a much better reason. Labor Day was established as a National Holiday in 1894 to pay tribute to the working men and women in the Nation. I found this great quote by Samuel Gompers, founder and longtime president of the American Federation of Labor while looking up the actual date it became a national holiday and wanted to share... "Labor Day differs in every essential way from the other holidays of the year in any country. All other holidays are in a more or less degree connected with conflicts and battles of man's prowess over man, of strife and discord for greed and power, of glories achieved by one nation over another. Labor Day...is devoted to no man, living or dead, to no sect, race, or nation." As I have become more aware of myself, m...

November 11, 2011 24 DAYS OF THANKS #11 - I am thankful for the Veterans as well as all active duty military. I dont even have words for your braveness and commitment to keeping us and our country safe. My heart breaks for those who have given the ultimate sacrifice, may your families find peace in knowing so many people pray for you daily. My grampa and dad were both active military men who served in the army. They are both my heros... Heres my Grampa... I miss him... Yeah yeah yeah, I took today off from work and still had to support my "addiction" by waking up at 4:45 and getting to the gym for my 5:30am workout. Some people may think I am nuts, but I really enjoy starting my day that early... I have things I want to get done today and since I asked K and she said "no problem, its no different from any other Friday" I went for it. I am so glad that I did. Really, if I was to sleep later I think I would be more tired and just totally thrown off for the day...

"DT" Challenge

Image
September 6, 2011 I was going to title this post "Death by DT" since really, I know I have said it before... but, this was the hardest and most challenging workout I have done in my 4 weeks at CFW. I will tell you about the workout in a second, but K and I were talking about what "DT" stands for at the end of the workout. She discovered (thank you smart phone) that the initials DT represent Timothy Davis. When I got to writing this post, I wanted to see who DT was and what the origin of todays WOD was. This is where I started to find that my previous title would be inappropriate. These initials are the ops initials of SSgt Tim Davis, 23d Special Tactics Squadron, US Air Force who was killed in action on February 20, 2009. He was 28 years old supporting operations in OEF when his vehicle was struck by and IED. He was a husband and a father to a one year old son at the time of the accident. You can read more about Tim Daivs HERE . Clearly the person who wrote this...
