Regularly Scheduled Programming

May 21, 2013 ...AND NOW BACK TO YOUR REGULARLY SCHEDULED PROGRAM!! Phew... I really feel like I have been in a whirl wind adventure since that very first Open workout was announced on March 6... two and a half months ago. Each week was filled with a little bit of this and a little bit of that. The weeks following, after qualifying were filled with extra training, a little added stress and honestly, a ton of fun! Finally it was all wrapped up in tight little bow this past weekend at the Regional. Yesterday, I treated myself with a nice relaxing rest day from work and the gym and today... we are back to "normal." I will not lie. It was a breath of fresh air to go to the gym this morning and feel no stress or pressure on my own performance. One of the things that this whole experience has taught me was to really take a step back and remember what it is that I love about CrossFit. I love the way it makes me feel. I love the happiness and satisfaction that I get from g...

March 26, 2013 Oh lovely day! I was pumped to get to the gym this morning to do this WOD. My kind of WOD. Just the right length, nice heavy weight, mix of skill (that isnt bar work or double unders... aka PISTOLS) and rowing! I like this kind of match up! This is one of my favorite pics of K from the Regional competition last year... she was doing this workout.   I am still so pumped for the remainder of the open! Personally I couldnt be more proud of myself and the rest of CrossFit Wachusett... individuals, team, whatever way you want to look at it. There are people inspiring people left and right. There are PR's there are goals set, goals met and goals shattered!! Its such an exciting time of year to be around such amazing people!! Breaking Skin

Image
February 19, 2013 Well, I spared you all the "nasty" pictures of my dumb ass move with the box cutter, but this couldn't go undocumented! The first pic is right before I got the stitches out and the second is today. Not to shabby eh? But in all seriousness, today is the 19th... so only 12 days ago that was a pretty nasty cut. I have to attribute the quick healing to my diet and health. The Dr also did a great job stitching me up... the "master" stitch remover (big props KP) did a fantastic job as well! I took care of it, kept it clean and was ready to rock and roll at the comp. This morning I decided to just go balls to the wall with it (oddly enough this could be a literal statement in crossfit, but it wasnt today). The stitches are out and I "held together" at the competition. So a little tape, a small piece of gauze and I was ready to get my bar complex on. Ummm... maybe a little too soon. Looked down 8 minutes into the 10 minute WOD and...

Burned

October 4, 2012 Today was another WOW day! I saw this go up and needed to do it. It certainly looked like it was going to be a challenge and thats exactly what I needed. Hubs and I are leaving tonight to Killington to Celebrate our Anniversary so I am going to be away from CrossFit for 4 days. We are going to give it a shot to do something while we are there, but of course you get the best workout when you are at the gym. I think I was actually saying the above quote to myself over and over while I was doing this WOD. It was one of those workouts that chips away slowly and once you get over the hump you just have to keep baring down and pushing to the end. At some point it feels like it will never be over and at another point I would think "all I have left is this this and that, I can do this." At no point did I think I was going to quit or wasnt going to be able to finish, I think I have been past that for a while, but I will say that I didnt think some of the elements...

Labor Day

Image
September 3, 2012 Labor Day is usually the day that marks the end of the summer. Its the last weekend that people usually use their vacation homes, pack up their boats and have massive parties. Really... Labor Day exists for a much better reason. Labor Day was established as a National Holiday in 1894 to pay tribute to the working men and women in the Nation. I found this great quote by Samuel Gompers, founder and longtime president of the American Federation of Labor while looking up the actual date it became a national holiday and wanted to share... "Labor Day differs in every essential way from the other holidays of the year in any country. All other holidays are in a more or less degree connected with conflicts and battles of man's prowess over man, of strife and discord for greed and power, of glories achieved by one nation over another. Labor Day...is devoted to no man, living or dead, to no sect, race, or nation." As I have become more aware of myself, m...

I am in Charge!

Image
August 24, 2012 Yep. I am in charge. Today is a good day! I woke up with a smile and I was ready to let the day unfold as it would. Not to say things cant go wrong, there aren't going to be hiccups... but I am choosing happiness today! I have said before how lucky I feel I am that every morning when my alarm goes of I cant wait to go to the gym that I love... and I dont dread going to work on a daily basis. Makes choosing happiness a hell of a lot easier at 4:45am! I couldnt wait to hit this mornings workout hard! It was going to be a challenge, my legs are sore and tired... but I didnt care. These are the kinds of workouts that I love (ok so I love them all). But with sprints, I can be powerful and work as fast as I can and have built in rest, whats better than that! I really think its fantastic that K and M are creative enough to change things up for us all the time and still keep us on a really great program to assure we gain strength and endurance. Sure, there are days t...

Fisher Price

June 8, 2012 Ever do something so many times it feels like you can do it in your sleep? You get so use to doing something the same way that if someone/something was to throw a wrench into it and it feels like its completely thrown off? I remember when I learned to roller-skate at a young age. I went from those little plastic fisher price skates that you clipped over your shoes… to the perfect white skates with a little strip of color over the toes that my Papa bought me (of course that was after he bought me a pair of red and white ones that I had to return because they were both the same foot… oh what a memory). I was pretty good, skated a lot with my friends in the neighborhood, my cousins and friends at roller kingdom (which is actually still there and still looks exactly the same). Finally there came a day when I decided that I was going to transition to roller blades. It was the “cool” thing to do and since my brother had a pair I had to get them so I could be just like him, not...

Push It

April 30, 2012 For me, when I first started CF there was always a moment in a workout where I just didn't think I could finish. There was a breaking point where either my arms were burning, my legs were sore, my hands couldn't hold on any longer or my lungs felt like no matter what I couldn't catch my breath. I never gave up. I just kept on pushing. Those WOD's might have been slower than I wanted them to be... maybe they didnt have the "best" times, but for me... just finishing them was enough of a goal for myself. That is one of the most important lessons that I have learned with CrossFit. There is this energy in a CF Box that you really cant understand unless you have been to one yourself. The encouragement, drive and emotions that come out from the coaches and other athletes is indescribable... this isnt just at large competitions or during the Opens, its every day, every 5:30am class, every Saturday afternoon. We are all there pushing, cheering, shari...
