I am worth it

November 2, 2012 22 Days of Thanks 2012 - Day 2 I am thankful for my determination and drive. When I think about where I was a year ago, I just cant believe it. I am extremely aware of the changes that have happened physically, mentally and emotionally in myself and I am beyond proud that I did not give up, give in or get frustrated when times were tough. Through my life I was taught how to set goals, push for them and reach for the stars. I have realized how important it is to keep MYSELF happy. That if I am unhappy, it will show in all aspects of my life. When there is something that I feel should change, I have to make the choice to change it. When I have a problem, I have to address it. A little over a year ago my negative attitude was keeping me from being the person I wanted to be, the person I really am. It was bringing me down, and worse, it was bringing the people around me down. I have learned to love myself again. I take pride in what I have done and where I am goin...

Wow, She is HEAVY!

May 16, 2012 Damn... Fran got heavy overnight! Fran is pretty much THE crossfit staple WOD. Its the "how much do you bench" between crossfit athletes. Its not a "hard" WOD, its not a lot of movements or complicated movements... but its pretty much the benchmark for your progression in crossfit. I read somewhere the following quote... "One of the most anticipated events at the olympics is the 100m dash and the final lasts less than 10 seconds. Fran is crossfit's 100m dash." So, today CrossFit Wachusett put a special "twist" on Fran. Today we did Fran before she became a crossfit athlete... before she dropped the weight. We did HEAVY Fran! Typically Fran is a 21-15-9 with 65lbs thrusters (for women) and pullups. When modified to be Heavy Fran we did a 15-12-9 with 95lb thrusters (for women) and had to do either weighted pullups or chest to bar pullups... I opted for the chest to bars. Wow, what a workout! I am a huge fan of lifting ...

Make way for the Hurricane!

Image
February 15, 2012 This... ... is a hurricane. This particular picture was taken in September of 1996 of the 6th named storm and 5th hurricane of the season. "She" developed from a tropical wave near Cape Verde on August 23rd. After going parallel to the Bahamas "She" made landfall in North Carolina on September 6th. "She" was a Category 3 storm with 120mph winds that resulted in coastal flooding, damaged cars, 63,000 without power, 27 fatalities and $3.2 in damage.... Her name you ask? FRAN. Gregg Glassman ( you know who he is right? ), is quoted in this article saying "if a hurricane that wrecks havoc on a whole town can be Fran, so can a workout." In fact... the more recent of the "nasty girl" WOD's are named for the Elite CF Athletes, but the originals are named for hurricanes (fitting no?). So anyway... Glassman developed Fran as one of the "original benchmark" WODs. Fran is known by all CF athletes... most...

Week 1 - Success

January 16, 2012 Week on of the Paleo Challenge at CrossFit Wachusett is complete. I ended the first week with 3 points. Took one for the dinner we had on Friday night (including Newmans Own Balsamic Dressing, since the lunch meat is "occasionally" acceptable) and a point for both Saturday and Sunday morning's bacon. Its the "most paleo" bacon we can find, but none the less, it is still outside the parameters of the challenge. I am feeling pretty good after the first 7 days. Hubs and I as I said before were pretty "paleo" anyway... just not as strict as we are being now. The weekend was the hardest part and since we really didnt do anything, it wasnt any different from any other day. We did go to a party on Friday night, there was quite the spread of food. We faced the challenge by eating before we went, and both brought a black coffee with us so we wouldnt be tempted with beers or soda. Worked out well. A friend of ours from another CF gym is als...

Good Morning Fran!

September 19, 2011 Wow, what a weekend... I think I might have actually sat still for 5 minutes the whole weekend combined. It was totally my kind of weekend doing things that I love with people who make me happy. So, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that! We got home from the game, I went right to the computer and Hubs said "you are going to blog NOW?! You are crazy... go to bed." Hence the short picture filled post, it was a late night and I knew as I crawled into bed a little before midnight that 5:00am was going to be a blink away! For some reason I woke up at 4:00am with butterflies in my stomach. I have been excited about using the new gym and anxious about my morning routine, how I would get it all in, where I was going to shower and all that, it was like the first day of school! So, I think subconsciously I was thinking about it in my sleep. I couldnt for the life of me fall back asleep (not to mention those earplugs T has us wear while installing the pullup...
