Hello Nicole

Image
October 2, 2012 Meet Nicole... again... This is a dual purpose image today. One, because the woman in the image is cleaning. She is clearly showing the 3 stops for the 3 stop clean that we worked today for the Oly session. Two... and even better, the woman in the image is "The" Nicole that the WOD we did today is named for. CrossFits very own Nicole Carroll, one of the original nasty girls. We did Nicole a while back in July and I can clearly remember the day. I remember struggling through the pullups and switching (with M's instruction) from the bar with tape to the bar with no tape. I wad determined today to perform better than before and have a consistent amount of reps unbroken for the pullups. I had it in my head through the whole WOD and would not let go of that bar until I hit 10 reps each round. Next time I just have to run a little faster, or hang on longer and get that number up again! Overall, very happy with my 3rd meeting with Nicole. WARMUP: 2 Mi...

Doppelganger

September 14, 2012 I stayed home from work on Monday for a recovery day. While I was home I was watching some reruns of How I Met Your Mother. One of the seasons they had randomly worked a doppelganger into some of the episodes for each of the main characters. A doppelganger, in case you dont know, is basically a "look-a-like" of someone, someone who bares so much resemblance to the person its uncanny. Its pretty common for people to ask on FB or other social media types who your "famous" doppelganger is. I have been told that mine is Jessica Biel (which certainly makes Hubs happy since she is his "freebee"). So, whats my point. Well, the common reaction... and my own reaction as well, is "I wish" when someone says that I look like her. I realize now that we all spend a whole lot of time in our lives trying to be someone we are not. Trying to mold ourselves into a vision that we have, and less living in the moment, accepting what we are an...

Let It Go

August 23, 2012 There was a time in my life that I thought I had everything planned out. I was young, I was in a fantastic relationship and I had only known the "normal" hardships of a teenager. My thoughts were about what I was going to do on Saturday night, what my shifts at work were going to be like next week and if my parents were going to find out that I went into Boston last weekend. Problems were the fact that my friend broke plans with me to hang out with her new boyfriend, I didnt have any money to buy a new top for my date on Friday night and how in the world I was going to get to a 8:00am class that I had no choice to sign up for in college. In the middle of all that, I had a vision of what I wanted my life to look like. However, I have to say... if you asked me then what I thought my life would be like at 30+ years old and compared than to now... I was pretty far off! I am, by virtue of my bloodline, a planner. I think about the future often. Maybe thats a go...

Nothing Fancy Here!

August 20, 2012 One of the things (of the many things) I love about CrossFit is the feeling inside the gym. No one is there to "out-do" anyone else. No one is there to "jibber jabber" rather than actually working out (though we do do plenty of jibber jabbering before and after the workout). No one is there to make fun of, laugh at or have any negativity towards anyone else. No one cares if you scale you workout or Rx your workout.  No one cares if you dont match your tank top to your socks, if you finish your workout and your hair is a mess, you have chalk all over you or you are covered from head to toe in sweat... No one is there to judge anyone... What you have is a open gym with minimal equipment (the only equipment you need), buckets of chalk, sweat spots on the floor, dirty tape from hard worked hands on rings or pullup bars, a killer radio and a giant WOD board. We sweat, we grunt and we drop weights. We treat everyone as equals. We cheer on every member ...
