Nothing Fancy Here!

August 20, 2012

One of the things (of the many things) I love about CrossFit is the feeling inside the gym. No one is there to "out-do" anyone else. No one is there to "jibber jabber" rather than actually working out (though we do do plenty of jibber jabbering before and after the workout). No one is there to make fun of, laugh at or have any negativity towards anyone else. No one cares if you scale you workout or Rx your workout.  No one cares if you dont match your tank top to your socks, if you finish your workout and your hair is a mess, you have chalk all over you or you are covered from head to toe in sweat... No one is there to judge anyone...

What you have is a open gym with minimal equipment (the only equipment you need), buckets of chalk, sweat spots on the floor, dirty tape from hard worked hands on rings or pullup bars, a killer radio and a giant WOD board. We sweat, we grunt and we drop weights. We treat everyone as equals. We cheer on every member of the gym, we encourage each other, we lean on each other, we push each other. We learn, we teach, we laugh, we struggle, we cry... we are always supportive, we are a community and we understand each other. We've been there.

I can describe it until I am blue (or my fingers cramp up typing) but in truth, you cant understand the feeling of belonging to a CF Gym, its personal community/family, or even the larger national scaled community until you feel it for yourself. Its unbelievable.

Todays WOD was great! Yep, I said "great" to a WOD with chest to bar pullups AND double unders in it! What is going on? I felt amazing, which was kind of strange since I was so exhausted. I feel like when I walk in the door there everything I am feeling just melts away. I am in a new place with a new mind. Just get the job done.

The 3 stop cleans were so helpful. I have been working this a lot on my skill day and it was nice to get it done a a group and really be able to focus on each part of the clean. I wanted to use a heavy enough weight to be productive, but still keep form perfectly. That was the whole point of the exercise anyway. I worked up to 95lbs and held there. I really feel like I learned a lot and will be able to carry that through to my skill days and future WODs.

Praise the double under gods!! They were on my side today! All 5 rounds of unbroken double unders! This had the potential to be a nightmare!!

I am also NOT cutting out my post workout shake.
