November 5, 2012 22 Days of Thanks 2012 - Day 5 I am thankful for my DVR. I am going to be honest, this one is pretty petty... but I have to throw it in there. I have a few shows that I love to watch and if it wasnt for my DVR, I would never get to see them. I dont even really know what time or day any of the shows are on that I watch in real time! Lesson Learned

Image
September 19, 2012 In my short 31.75 years of life (not 32 yet!) I have learned many lessons. They started as a baby, when my parents “tried” to teach me “NO,” and continued through my childhood when I was taught right from wrong, good from bad, the difference between tattle tailing and telling what needed to be told and the famous treat others as you want to be treated. Of course there have been many, many more lessons learned (never play leapfrog with a unicorn and don’t eat yellow snow being some more of the “wiser” lessons) through my life, far too many to list or even recall at one time in one sitting. I can say that some lessons I had to learn the hard way, some were drilled into my head so I didn’t ever have to think twice about them and some I just developed on my own. The lessons that I learned the hard way seem to be the ones that have had the most impact on my life. Maybe that’s because whatever it was that I experienced to cause the burn or teach me the lesson is so...

Thats a First

August 21, 2012 It worked. Last Wednesday I was so frustrated with myself by my mindset going into the WOD simply because of the running. I made a promise to myself that that was going to be the last time that was going to happen. I was going to put my best foot forward (pun intended) and run my heart out the next time I encountered it in a WOD. No more of this "I hate running" crap. I got a chance to put that to the test this morning. When I saw the WOD I was actually pretty excited. Pumped that I had to face running and handstand pushups in the same WOD after the feelings I had post WOD last week with both exercises. Today with a change of attitude I was ready to crush this one! Doing my best to not over think it I couldnt wait for the WOD to begin! Its amazing what your mind can do, what focus and determination can do. Honestly, I dont think that people actually understand how powerful it is. More often than not your body can keep going when your mind sends a signal ...

What Direction to Choose?

Image
August 11, 2012 Wow, I feel like I have been writing a lot about being “down” and picking yourself back up. Not sure whats going on here, but I am going to run with it because it seems to be flowing pretty freely and when that happens sometimes I get what I need to say off my chest without even knowing. Today was one of those days where I had a lot of energy to get out and had the perfect mode to get it out with… you guessed it CROSSFIT! The week was pretty crazy and I was all for a little time with some girlfriends at the bar for a drink on my way home from work. I don’t typically do that, but it was Josh’s birthday and I wanted to have one for him! So I did. Felt nice to be out with some friends talking and having a good time. I knew we had a lot going on Saturday, nothing too stressful but I was glad to have just two beers than head home to watch a little TV and get a good nights sleep! I really needed it. Today was one of those days that I looked forward to the WOD know...

Another day...

August 3, 2012 ... another dollar. Today was going to be a vacation day for me. Hubs and I won a pretty kick ass prize back in June at Blogaplaooza when I decided to buy some raffle tickets for an overnight at a bed and breakfast up in North Conway. We were pretty excited for it and I called right away to book one of the only weekends we had available to do anything for the rest of the summer (man they fill up fast). We had decided that it wasnt really worth it to go up for ONE night so since one night was going to be free we would purchase a second night and make a weekend out of it. Thus, I took today off. Things worked out a bit differently than we had planned and I decided to go in for at least a half a day than be home to get things ready for when he got home from work.  Well, I wound up having a meeting I had to drive to that didnt make too much sense to go into the office than drive to, so I was going to just leave from my house. This would hhve allowed me to sleep in ...

Feeling Filthy... Again

Image
May 4, 2012 How soon we forget... THIS is the last time I was fortunate enough to do the Filthy Fifty... hey at least it didnt snow this morning! I can say this with certainty... I actually enjoyed this today! The anxiety was there but it was more abut pushing harder than the last time to get through it. I knew my improvements from last time. I know my weaknesses and I know where I need to push harder to get through. I was not going to let it overcome me! The filthy fifty starts with box jumps, thank god. The box jumps are typically one of the hard parts for me in a WOD. I have to say with the skills we have been working and our group sessions after the warmup, I have improved on them with huge leaps and bounds (no pun intended). I am quick off my feet, I dont waste time on the ground and I know to rest at the top. Its much more efficient and before I knew it I was done all 50. Onto the jumping pullups which seem to feel so "funny" after working so hard to not push o...

Success

Image
February 3, 2012 So true... how do you know how close you are to succeeding at something when you decide to throw in the towel? Just a few more attempts, just a few more minutes, one more try.. you would never know if you didnt. Where do you draw the line? If you didnt have a line, you could potentially be working at something forever and maybe never succeed, right?! Yeah, but what if you DO succeed? Its a mind game. You will never succeed without trying and you will certainly never succeed if you give up. How to remedy that? Well, in my opinion, if you want something you just keep on going until there is nothing left. Push, train, study, walk... whatever it is that you are reaching for... keep doing it as long as you are able to do it. You might not notice your advancements right away, and some may be smaller and less noticeable than others, but if you are working towards a goal, doing what you need to do to get better at it, and taking good ...

Its nice to catch up and see how others have reached goals and milestones and help when othe...

Feeling Filthy

Image
October 28, 20111 I have been hearing about the "Filthy Fifty," but I had yet to see the WOD, or actually do the WOD... until today. Last night after dinner Hubs and I looked at the CFW website, and there it was "FILTHY FIFTY." At that moment I decided it was time for bed. It was 8:30pm and I knew by the time I cleaned up dinner, washed up and got in bed it would be close to 9:00 and I wanted to try to get 8 hours in to tackle this bad boy!! It worked, I was in bed with "The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" playing... I love Linus... Hes my favorite! Anyway... it was great (hehe). I was asleep by 9:00 which gave me my 7 3/4 hours!! Yay!! I actually woke up at 4:30am wide awake, which was odd for me. I guess thats what two good nights of sleep will do for you! I made myself stay in bed till 4:45 than out of bed and off to CF I went. The "road block" was the wonderful October snow... can you believe this! Thank god for my remote car starter!! ...

Hunt or Gather?

October 11, 2011 Good Monday... eerrr Tuesday morning! It feels good after a long weekend to be back at work. I know that sounds so odd to say, but I am ready for a new week and feeling great today. Hubs and I had a great Anniversary weekend and it was topped off with great workouts with out CFW family on Saturday and again last night. It was a good boost for the next few weeks leading me into my least favorite time of year (the winter) when its harder to get out of bed, harder to resist the temptations that surround the gatherings, parties and holidays and just plain overrun by commercialism. Dont get me wrong. I love the fall and I love love love Thanksgiving. Its my favorite season and time of year. I am going to soak it up while I can and enjoy every minute of the pumpkin pie scent... and cool air, changing leaves and FOOTBALL! This morning I saw an article on FB that caught my eye... you can find it HERE . Its from the CBS San Fransisco website and it is titled "HealthW...
