Get Set

October 20, 2011

Didnt get to bed until later than I wanted to last night. I was totally thrown off by having to get up this morning. Typically Thursday is my off day... but I decided to go this morning and workout than take tomorrow off as a full recovery day before Garage Games this weekend. Its the first time I have attempted 4 days in a row, but I have to say, it felt pretty good (aside for the getting up on my typical day off thing). I have to figure out how to get to bed earlier so I can get at least 7 hours of sleep. Getting in bed at 9:45-10:00 dosent cut it when the alarm goes off at 4:40. I will make it work.

I dragged myself out of bed, grabbed my shaker and water and off I went. Damn, was it cold when I left this morning. Its just going to get worse, but I feel like it went from being "ok" to being "damn cold" really fast!! I knew that T was going to be there again today and we had talked yesterday about using the strength portion of the workout today to find our starting points, and breaking points for the first WOD Saturday. Its clean and jerks, and we all have to get a ending weight... but we only have 15 minutes to do it. Strategy is necessary. Luckily between KP, Me, T and Hubs we should do relatively well in the event. We shall see!! I can already feel the adrenaline!

I laughed when I saw burpees in the warmup. Somehow they dont seem as bad when they arent for time, but that dosent mean that dont still suck! We have to do 3 sets of 60 during one of the WODs (as a team) so I think this was a little prep action as well! I really needed the mobility stretches, which we got to pick what we wanted to do. Since T was still warming up I did both shoulders and hips. The stretches make me feel so good afterwards. Amen for giant rubber bands.

So it was time to get into the WOD. We got our weights ready, 65lbs Rx for me, for the snatches (theres that "snatch word" again) and than took a seat on the rowers. I knew I wanted to keep a good pace on the row and continue without stopping into the snatches. As I started the first of the three rounds I was trying not to look at T's rower and concentrate on just keeping my 500m under 2:00. I succeeded on the first round, and finished a few seconds behind T.

We both got started on the first set of 15 snatches. I wanted to do them unbroken so I was trying to pace myself and keep my breathing under control. I did pretty well on the first round, really thought about the practice we had the other day and headed right back over to the rower. I grabbed my water on the way (shame on me for not putting it next to the rower to start) that started. This round was a little more taxing on the rower. My legs were burning from doing the snatches still so I did get over 2:00 a few times.

The remainder of the WOD was a mental game. I caught my breath after the rowing and when I got back to the bar I just got right into the lift without even thinking about it. I finished the WOD in 13:10.

I love this little guy... I think I want one!

So as I said WOD we opted to not do the "bullet proof shoulders" (which I do want to do someday after Garage Games are over) and work on finding our starting point and max for the clean and jerks. I did have a PR this morning on this and I am shooting to hit that PR times 2 on Saturday. We will see if it works!

Tomorrow I taket he day off... hydrate, eat and get a good nights sleep... Saturday GAME ON!
