Yeah, I said Snatch...

October 14, 2011

This morning was really different and FUN at the gym! Not only did I have company for my 5:30am workout... but today it was KP!! Like I said in my post the other day, she and I work really well together! Having another crossfitter there with me adds something different to my workout, but more than ever when someone like KP is there because I know that she and I have been neck and neck for a few workouts so we use each other as fuel to keep pushing!

I got to bed a little late last night and had a hard time sleeping, so it was a shocker when my alarm went off this morning. I wanted to hit snooze so bad, but I know once I get out of bed and start moving I am fine. I made my way downstairs got my shaker and my water and off to CFW I went. Thank god its Friday!

I didnt get a chance to look at the WOD last night, and K was writing it up when I got there. So I started the warmup. My legs are still a little sore from wall balls, cleans and burpees... but not nearly as bad as they were. Once I am warm they are good to go. The walking lunges get that out of the way right off the batt! I was just about to start when KP walked in so we warmed up together. Conversation is MUCH different with 3 ladies than it is other mornings!! Haha!!

Once the WOD was up I was excited! Snatches! The last time we did them was a few weeks ago, 75 of them with 55lbs. Today was an AMRAP (as many rounds as possible) with 15 snatches at 55lbs and 30 double unders. Double unders have been a thorn in my side since I started to get them... I have been unable to string them together without a hop in between... and I cant tell if its the length of the rope or what, but its annoying! I did a few practice ones.... shocked the hell out of myself when I did a few in a row with no hop! Terrified I was going to "waste" them before the WOD, I stopped!! KP and I got our 55lb bars ready and away we went.

I was totally in shock, I nailed 15 double unders in a row with no intermediate hop right at the bell! I was so excited. Almost too excited to keep getting them, but I was able to recover. I was really happy going into the first set of snatches. The funny thing about 55lbs. Its not really "heavy" for me so its almost awkward. I dont really have to drop the weight, but I wasnt sure I wanted to exert the energy to bring it down to the starting position. I did the first 5 without dropping it, dropped it the next 5, than hung onto it the next 5. I think it was easier to just hang onto the weight so I didnt have to reposition myself at the start I could just go right into the next lift.

The second round of double unders was awesome... at first I was afraid I lost it, but than all of a sudden a string of 23 in a row! Holy moses, what was happening! I quickly finished and went right into my 2nd set of snatches.  This time I didnt drop the weight. I took a quick breath around rep 7 or 8 than did the rest and moved back to the rope and into the 3rd round. I was clearly tired by than. Jump roping takes a lot out of you and entails a lot more cardio than you would think. I dont remember it feeling like that when I was 8 years old.

K yelled out "3 more minutes" and I knew I wanted to get in at least one more round. I finished the double unders right around that time and flew into the snatches. With the time constraint (10 minutes flew by today) I wanted to push them out pretty quick, so I went to work and before I knew it was back on double unders. My damn shoe came untied with about 20 seconds left to go... I kicked my shoes off and was able to do 20 of the 30 double unders in the 4th round. Phew...

Skill today was handstand pushups (or walking handstand). I am just getting acclimated to putting my face towards the ground so I was going to stick with the pushups. I did a few against the wall than K had me try the harness from the bar so I could go all the way down to the floor on the pushup. It was sort of a weird feeling, but it will get me used to the full range of motion. I really want to get the "real" hand stand pushup... thats the next goal! That and pullups... my upper body needs work!

I am really looking forward to tomorrows workout! Saturdays are FUN!!
