Dreams

When I was a little girl, as far back as I can remember... when someone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up I would tell me "when I grow up I want to be a dance teacher." For years that was my answer and for years I was a student in a dance class at a very successful studio. I think it was just the simple fact that I loved dance and really, it was what I was good at... so as a child you think, well when I grow up I want to do what I love...
When I was in Jr High and I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up I would respond "I want to be a physical therapist." I was sure what was what I wanted to do, who I wanted to be. It was clear. I wanted to help people, I wanted to work with people and I wanted to do something physical with my life.
My sophomore year of high school I took a drafting class. Really because I didnt want to take another computer class for the teacher to ramble on about all the thing I already knew about computers, excel and what not. After week one of that class my mind was made up. I knew what I loved and what I wanted to do/be for the rest of my life. An Architect. I had a dream (que Martin Luther King Jr), and my dream was to become an architect... no matter what lay ahead of me, this was it. I was going to conquer whatever mountains were in my way an do it.
Four years of state school, two years of work, a swift kick in the ass from my dad and another 6 years of graduate school later and I am perusing my dream. I am a stones throw (well really 7 really hard exams) and at most 5 years or less away from my license of architecture and on my way as we speak to a successful career. What I set out to do...
But... todays post is not about me and my dreams. Today I was fortunate enough to see someone else's dreams unfold right in front of my eyes. I helped to take part in that unfolding and I will remember it forever.
Hubs and I arrived at Lovell Street at 7:30am rip roaring and ready to go. We, along with K, M, their parents and another CFer A, packed CrossFit Wachusett into three pick up trucks and two SUV's and headed to the new location!! K wasnt kidding when she said the WOD for Saturday was going to be a tough one.
Loading and unloading mats, weights, boxes, rowers, racks, bars and med balls was just the beginning of what was ahead for the day! In and out of the trucks, up the stairs and into place. Than the hard part started, as that was just the warmup. We cut mats, went on runs to pick up more mats, swept the floors, moved the weights, painted things and everything else you could imagine.... it was probably one of the hardest working "moves" I have ever done in my life... but you know what... it was totally worth it.
After nine hours of all of that... we looked around and thought... wow, this place looks great... I couldn't help but look at K and M and think that I was so so so happy that Hubs and I were helping in making their dreams come true. What it must feel like to stand in that space and know it is your dream coming true is unbelievable. When you walk in the door the first thing you see is a new logo painted by K's mom... "CrossFit Wachusett." We are here and we are to stay!!
Monday morning when I arrive bright and early... the first time I am on those mats and every time after that... I will think about what it was like to actually lay those mats into that place... when I hang from the pullup bar I will think about the day it was installed... when I jump on the boxes I will remember watching them be painted... It makes all the sweat and sore muscles and the fatigue feel so different. Humbling to be a part of something so special, so wonderful and so deserving for M and K who have clearly worked so hard to make this happen.
K and M hosted a Paleo BBQ with their parents and other CFers after the installation. Lots of laughs, good food, a great boat ride and a fire later and Hubs and I are feeling so grateful to be a part of something so wonderful. Sometimes life takes mysterious turns and sometimes life just puts things right out in front of you to take a hold of and run with it. We were lucky in our lives that when we went looking for something to change our lives and with that we found Crossfit Wachusett... and more importantly K and M. Blessed that they have welcomed us into their lives and blessed that they have allowed us to share in their dream.
Matt and Kelsey... we have all the faith in the world in you and CrossFit Wachusett. We wish you all the success and happiness in the world and cant wait to witness it all unfold in the years to come!! We can not wait to work hard, sweat, grunt, lift, set goals, break personal records and WOD with you in your new space!! Good Luck and thank you for everything!!

ReplyDeleteI'm a little behind on my blog reading, so here is my post a couple days too late! Thank you and Marc for being so helpful! You two are exactly the type of people that we had envisioned being apart of our CrossFit family. We appreciate every drop of sweat, in WOD's and in the move! You two are amazing human beings with big hearts and we can't wait to celebrate more dream building (in all forms)among us all in the CrossFit Wachusett community!
