If that makes me a bitch, okay...

"I'm tough, I'm ambitious, and I know exactly what I want. If that makes me a bitch, okay." - Madonna Ciccone

I was looking for some inspirational quotes for women for my post today since its my day off from CrossFit. I found the previous quote and I thought it was fantastic. I know personally, I have had my "aggressiveness" mistaken as being a bitch on quite a few occasions in my life, but I am not afraid to be the way I am. I am where I am in my life because of my personality so I would never hang my head ashamed of that.

I have had to overcome the struggle of being a woman in a "mans field," through most of my adult life since I chose to get into architecture and construction. The numbers of women in my field is rapidly growing and when I was in my masters the population of women was higher than men, but  I cant say the same for my bachelors studies. I was one of 6 women in my major (industrial technology). Coincidentally, we happen to not only be a small number of women, but we were also Sarah, Sarah, Sarah, Sara, Sara and Terra.... maybe creativity is in the name!

I now work for an amazing architectural firm, where women are all treated equal. In fact, we actually in our small firm of 15, outnumber the men now! I have never let the fact that I am a female stand in my way in any goal I have set forth for myself. Not that I havent encountered bumps, challenges, a-hole men, and other obstacles in my other jobs, schooling and life, but I am here now, the woman I want to be. My parents raised me to be strong and independent. I was taught I can do anything I put my mind to. There isnt anything I cant do as long as I give it 100% effort and its impossible to fail at something if I dont try it.

Growing up I was an athlete. I was a dancer for 25 years, played softball, basketball and a little soccer, ran track in high school and have always dabbled in the gym. I have always liked to challenge myself to get better at everything I do and any type of competition sport was right up my alley. I have always been "the" woman at the gym in the morning on the free weights, and to me... thats ok. This challenge I am facing with Crossfit is making me feel so good everyday. I get to fight and push every workout to a new extreme, the only person I am competing with (for the most part) is myself. I feel refreshed.

I know I am an aggressive person, I know I am a competitive person. I dont mind confrontation, and I will always stand up for what I believe... and I agree with Madonna Ciccone... if that makes me a bitch... okay!

Here are some other great motivational quotes I came across...

"Beautiful women are strong and powerful. They are athletes, capable of every feat under the sun. They have muscles, borne of hard work and sweat." - Jon Gilson

"Natural talent only determines the limits of your athletic potential. Its dedication and willingness to discipline your life that makes you great" - Billie Jean King, Founder of the Women's Sports Foundation

"If you've given the greatest effort that you can expect from yourself, you always get what you deserve" - C. Vivian Stringer

"Girls playing sports is not about winning gold medals. Its about self-esteem, learning to compete and learning how hard you have to work in order to achieve your goals." - Jackie Joyner-Kersee

"Because I am a woman, I make make unusual efforts to succeed. If I fail, no one will say, 'she dosent have what it takes.' They will say 'Women dont have what it takes.'" - Clare Boothe Luce

"Remember, Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did, but backwards and in high heels." - Faith Whittlesy
